Couples

The time of this painting is youth.  Holiday romances are a common shared experience.  In many ways they are the purest of romantic experiences, they are short lived, never reach a stage of stagnation or boredom.   The elation of first meeting and the agony of parting are felt within a short timeframe.  It is a steep learning curve!

The girls are walking by.   Their youthful bodies and energetic gait captivate two boys who stare with a hopeless longing.  This is the gap that separates the couples.   It seems sometimes that we could never cross this gap; it might as well be the rand Canyon.  All the boys have to do is say something and that is about the only thing they are incapable of doing.
