Ceylon Circular Elephants Palm Dusk, limited edition giclee print on paper by artist Kristjana S Williams.
Circular wall art world map, inspired by the rich history, generous and good hearted people and beautiful nature of Sri Lanka. This inspiring island surrounded by pinky dusk light is located off the southern coast of India. In 1948, the British Colony of Ceylon was granted independence as Ceylon. In 1972, the country became a republic within the Commonwealth, and its name was changed to Sri Lanka as we know it today. Sri Lanka is renowned for it’s tea and tea plantations are to be found all over the island. Other strong symbols are the Buddhism and the wild life like the giraffe and the elephant. The pair of elephants represent the Sri Lankan elephants that have developed without tusks. This is due to a strong selection, meaning that Sri Lankans over the years have captured elephants with tusks and either used them locally or shipped them out, leaving fewer and fewer animals in the wild to pass on the tusk genes.
