Ceylon Leopard Circular Solsetur
This circular world map is inspired by the magical island of Sri Lanka. Pink, dusky light radiates across the entire piece, symbolising the warmth and vibrancy of South West Asia. Rich in history, abundant with nature and with a people full of kindness and generosity of spirit, Sri Lanka sits contentedly at the foot of Southern India, originally the independent state of Ceylon. Ancient seafarers bestowed Buddhism to the island, adding to its unique and ancient culture, influenced by the Portugese, English and Indians.
The charismatic yet endangered Sri Lankan leopard takes command; this, the largest of the endemic cats, ever watchful, always graceful, and dignified in their headdress, yet fearful of fading from the life that surrounds them. Sage green acacia, native satinwood and exotic palm fronds tumble into the frame, punctuated by a cascade of luminous passion flower, orchid, frangipani and the sultry scent of sacred lotus.
A majestic pair of bejewelled elephants bely their tuskless trunks, victims of human greed and disregard for the natural world, yet still thriving under the setting sun of this land under the microscope.
