Speaking of the work, Robert says: “This is inspired by one of the first apes to learn sign language, Chantek the orangutan. I discovered him via a random TED Talk and was fascinated to discover that he was a keen painter who not only understood American sign language but also created his own way of communicating. For instance, he called ketchup ‘tomato toothpaste’ and contact lenses ‘eye drinks’ – which I love.”
