Mammalian Blue Folk Tree, a limited edition giclee print on paper by Kristjana S Williams.
The story behind the artwork:
An archetypal English gent of a tree, one that graces city parks and avenues with an upright gait, courteously nodding under a head of true blue foliage. Held aloft in the leafy boughs are allusions to London town and in particular to the first ever hotel in London, the Brown’s Hotel, with its eminent guest list – the heart-shaped telephone is Alexander Graham Bell, stacks of books are Agatha Christie, Mark Twain and Rudyard Kipling and Napoleon III is disguised as a goose riding the bow of a Twinings tea cup. Also foodstuffs from high tea circle past; winged lemons and a pig-in-a-blanket hot air balloon. Then a dash of the dapper with a Singer sewing machine reminding us that a stitch in time saves nine and alluding to the sartorial elegance of Saville Row. Kristjana’s customary, folkloric creatures are most at home here, bedecked in top hats, tails, bustles, bows and casually swinging their walking canes.Mammalian Blue Folk Tree
