Paul James has an astonishing portfolio of artworks featuring the most incredible animals – from the kings and queens of the jungle, to the adorable and amusing farm animals and birds.The time came for us to put the spotlight on nature’s great masterpiece – the elephant.

This is the big question. Paul James and the team have considered many titles for this piece. Some funnier, others more philosophic and meaningful. They ranged from ‘Gentle Giant’ for the wisdom and strength to ‘Big E’ celebrating the big ears and the sheer size of this wonderful creature and of course, ‘Elephant in the room’ as the catchy phrase we all know, ‘Largest on Land’, but we’ve stopped at ‘NELL’ – meaning shining light.

So let’s shine some light onto this masterpiece… Paul is renowned for his intelligent play on words and humorous depiction of popular phrases, films, music and general cultural elements from our society.At every Paul James event, the word ‘elephant’ didn’t pass unmentioned by our collectors. It kind of became ‘The elephant in the room’… Well, the rest is history.That triggered Paul’s attention when he was looking for inspiration for an elephant painting and formed the basis for his portrayal titled ‘Nell’.

As an artist renowned for thinking ‘outside the box’, Paul has chosen to depict the Elephant from the perspective of being in the room looking out, and as though it is literally trumpeting ‘have you noticed me yet’. An interesting way to produce another thought-provoking urban creation.
