Artist Mark Davies is a mixed media and digital artist from Cambridgeshire in the East of England.
From a young age
Mark Davies always loved to draw and to paint and through education he developed this, always striving to create art with meaning, with genuine substance that the audience could appreciate even if not relate to. His preferred medium being the pencil and brush he kept his distance from the i-macs that were creeping into the college set up, he didn't see how a machine could truly translate his style and thinking onto screen.
A career as a graphic designer followed after locking himself in a room and learning what this brightly coloured plastic and glass kit could do. 15 years later he developed his technique through sustained experience in high-end photo retouching to allow him to put that to a different use and the results are what you see in his work.
Artist Mark Davies is the co-founder of a successful graphic design agency where his creativity is channelled to being best suited for business or product. For his art, there is no brief, there are no restrictions or brand guidelines, it is an opportunity to truly express himself and to stay true.
Spending so much time with his head down,
artist Mark Davies probably didn't acknowledge his influences but on reflection there are definitely links and admiration towards the likes of
Giuseppe Arcimboldo and
Salvador Dali whilst his earlier paintings were influenced by
Piero Della Francesca.
Artist Mark Davies' work reflects his thoughts and emotions, those influenced by life experience and those that form his character. You won't find a collection unified by style or subject, his work represents the full spectrum of emotions, from deep-rooted frustration and sadness, passion and eccentricity.
"I love to take an object or pieces of that object and transform it into something completely different but one where there exists a similarity or strong meaning. I enjoy creating a piece that on the first glance looks fun but then if you look again you get the underlying sentiment or concept," says the artist.
"My digital art is all about getting to know myself after so many years of creating for others, it is so incredibly exciting and the work you see on this site is the start of a new chapter whilst also making a promise to myself to not forget about the pencil and brush!"
