Matthew Hampshire is a self-taught photographer who turns the abandoned into the beautiful. Searching for forgotten places all over the world, Matthew Hampshire's abandoned photography reclaims the soul of the discovered space, gifting it a new identity. Inspired by the likes of M.C Escher, his abandoned photography retains a fantastical quality, leaving dark areas to allow our imagination to decide what could be hiding there.
"Whilst looking for places of isolation for my photography, I discovered many abandoned places, and was drawn to their beauty and solitude. In every place I visited, I could sense the many stories behind them and I try to capture this in my work, whether its a beautiful church that is being reclaimed by nature, a house full of decay and history, or a factory of machines that are now silent." - Matthew Hampshire.
His work has seen him travel to Bulgaria, Ukraine, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Austria as well as the UK. Matthew Hampshire's abandoned photography is printed onto aluminium, or acrylic panel, to add depth and texture. The result is captivating artwork for any interior, rich with colour, texture, and story.
